Stop neglecting you: Your gift is waiting

Joshauna Nash

Work. Spouse. Children. Family. Friends. Church. These priorities tend to shape who you are, change your perspective on life and/or alter how you move. While you’re doing an amazing job building others, are you ultimately neglecting you?

Think about a gift someone has given you. Maybe it was a laptop to ignite your writing career, or a camera to jumpstart your photography business, or even a heat press machine to start your clothing line. Whatever the gift was, I’m sure after receiving it, excitement about how you planned to use that gift followed. Then without fail, you get distracted or occupied with life’s happenings, and your gift takes a back seat. It’s no longer a driver in your life.

That’s how some of you have treated your God-given gifts and talents. You’ve allowed other obligations and factors to take the wheel, and unfortunately they are leading you on an unfulfilled journey to nowhere. God has supplied you with tools, resources and knowledge to be used in unique and life-changing ways.

Here’s your PSA

Pick that gift up! It’s time for you to do the work—even when you get frustrated and tired. In fact, that’s when you need to push through, pray for strength and keep going. Seek God for instruction and guidance, and start working your gift. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 18:16, “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.” You’re well overdue for some introductions that will redefine your life.

‭‭‬Consider this—gifts are typically uniquely selected for you. When I think about making a gift purchase for someone, I ask myself, what’s something this person may need, want or could use. I purchase gifts with intentionality. So let’s approach this spiritually. If God has blessed you with an ability, gave you a vision, equipped you with a talent, then you must realize that it’s His gift to you. And, you ‘best believe’ if you use your gift as God ordained, it will indeed bless, inspire or encourage someone, while opening up doors for you too. Romans 11:29 says, “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.”

It’s time for your gift to start changing lives, including yours.
